Meghalaya is a popular state in North-East part of India. The name Meghalaya means “the abode of clouds” in Sanskrit. The beauty of this place attracts throughout the year. Peoples get fascinated by the beauty of the fountains and the waterfalls of Meghalaya especially during rainy season.

Meghalaya has several tourist spots in the centre of Shillong. Shillong was the capital of India’s Undivided Assam during the British rule when they named Shillong as the “Sctoland of the East”. The best way to visit Shillong from Kolkata or from other metro cities of India is to first arrive at Guwahati via Flight or by train and from Guwahati via road it takes about 2-3 hours to reach Shillong. Recently Kolkata to Shillong direct flight service has started.
The local places to visit in Shillong are – Wards Lake and Botanical Garden, Catholic Cathedral, Shillong Peak, Elephant’s Falls, East Air Command Museum etc.
The other famous places to travel from Shillong are – Cherrapunji ( the places which receives highest rainfall of the world ) and Mauling village ( Asia’s most cleanest village).
The best meal dishes of Shillong include – Momo, Chicken Fry, Chicken Pakoda, Jado stem chicken, Chicken Neying.
